Duckhorn’s Merlot is fundamental to their winery. Dan Duckhorn “became enchanted with Merlot”, but in the late seventies it was mostly used as a blending grape in Napa Valley. To Dan, Merlot had a “softness and seductiveness” and knew it was a particularly good food wine. So, thirty years ago, he did something radical at the time. He decided to bottle the varietal on it’s own. Today, Duckhorn is one of Napa Valley’s most sought-after premium Merlots.
