Discover the New Fleming’s 100™

By Marian Jansen op de Haar, Fleming's Director of Wine

It's here at Last! The new Fleming's 100, our award-winning collection of 100 wines by the glass. Each of the wines that made the list this year is a true individual — an individual I’ve had the opportunity to come to know and love, and it’s my absolute pleasure to introduce you to them.

Make it a date to join us during "Opening Nights" every Thursday in September. We’ll be pouring 20 of the wines from the new Fleming’s 100 each evening so you can swirl and sip your way through the entire collection. That’s 5 nights, 20 wines each — think of it as speed dating for wine lovers. Whether you’re attracted to the fresh and lively type or something a lot more robust, it’s the perfect opportunity to compare and contrast different vintages and varietals and discover new favorites. I’ll share my tasting notes during these evenings, and encourage you to add your own comments.

With many guests preferring wines by the glass, my mission this year was to include more iconic wines from premier wineries: Duckhorn, Schramsberg, Chateau Montelena, Cain and Frog's Leap from Napa; and international wines with a stellar history such as Catena in Argentina. Year in and year out, these wineries produce some of the most sought-after wines in the world. It's exciting to offer so many classic wines by the glass, and at an exceptional value to boot.

And while classic wines are fantastic go-tos, it’s always exciting to discover avant-garde micro-cuvées. In addition, lists vary at different Fleming’s locations, allowing each Wine Manager to select up to 20 wines, which include some delicious regional wines.

Preparing the Fleming’s 100 takes a full year, as the wine managers and I taste thousands of wines (yes, I love my job!) to create our annual collection. Once the wine selections are made, then each has to be tasted again (grueling!) in order to list them progressively on the menu — the whites first, from lightest to fullest, sweetest to driest, then the reds listed from lightest to fullest, and least tannic to most tannic. This way, you can make the right choice for your individual taste.

Fleming’s Month of Discovery is the perfect excuse for you to expand your wine worldliness and embark on some delicious adventures.

So raise a glass (or two, or three, or a hundred) to the new Fleming's 100. I can wholeheartedly recommend each and every one of them. Cheers!
