Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection, 1998

A Limited-Time Wine Offering, Exclusively for Friends of Fleming’s

It was a very good year... Michael Jordan won his 6th NBA title for the Bulls. The S&P 500 hit 1,000. And we opened our first Fleming’s location in Newport Beach, California.

Turns out, 1998 was also a great year for wine, and especially for Napa Valley’s Caymus Vineyards. So when we discovered a cache of Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 1998, we bought as many cases as we could for our Friends of Fleming’s to enjoy.

The 1998 one of those rare vintages that make wine reviewers gush like poets. “Tasting this wine will confirm the existence of God beyond a doubt,” wrote Diane Teitelbaum in the Dallas Morning News. The Wine News put it on their list of “California’s Best Wines of the Year.” Wine Spectator weighed in with a score of 91 (hardly surprising when you consider that every Cabernet produced by Caymus has been rated 90 points or higher by the magazine since 1993).

As in previous years, Caymus winemaker Chuck Wagner deliberately reduced his crop yields for 1998 in order to increase the concentration and intensity of flavors, resulting in fruit of astonishing maturity. So paradoxically, what makes this wine so very good also makes it very scarce. All the more reason to take advantage of this limited-time opportunity the next time you dine with us.
